Self-Care, Vitality, and Joy

The aim of Saturday’s class is to tap into lower core strength to build a strong, solid, and sturdy foundation.

The aim of Sunday’s class is to address alignment in the upper core to relieve tension and pain and tap into upper core strength to feel energized, light, and free.

Respiratory and Lymph System Care

Yoga helps protect us against Covid-19 by helping us maintain a healthy respiratory, immune, and lymph system. A healthy respiratory system (nasal passageway, nasopharynx, cilia, mucus, and lungs) acts as the body’s first line of defense against invading pathogens and keeps  pathogens from entering the body’s blood stream.  A healthy immune system helps our body attack against foreign invaders. A healthy lymph system transports infection-attacking white blood cells to the places in the body that need it most and rids the body of toxins and wastes.

Inversions are essential to support the lymph system. Unlike the circulatory system, where the heart pumps oxygenated blood to the cells of the body and returns deoxygenated blood to the lungs, the lymph system does not have a direct pump to transport the lymph and white blood cells around the body. Hence, inversions assist in the circulation of  the lymph and white blood cells throughout the body.

Saturday Asanas  Standing Warriors. Triangle. Balance poses. Standing/Seated Twists. Domes. Supported Inversions. Restoratives.

Sunday Asanas  Downward Facing Hero. Downward Facing Dog. Standing Forward Bends. Wide Leg Forward flexion.  Supported Inversions. Bridge. Shoulder stand/Halasana.  Supta Baddha Konasana.  Restoratives.

Pranayama Each yoga class incorporates pranayama techniques, such as alternate nostril breathing and diaphragmatic (belly) breathing, to calm the mind, soothe the nervous system, and optimize the body’s natural healing capacity.

Pranayama (breath work) maintains healthy lungs where gas exchange occurs  (oxygen from the air is transported to the blood and carbon dioxide is eliminated from the blood into the air) and connects us to prana, where vital- life energy is received and given.

Healing Injury? For those who have a history of injury or trauma and notice that the effects of the minor/major injuries are beginning to interfere with your everyday lives, please note that all of the yoga classes are naturally healing.

Each yoga class is designed to help release stored pain, anxiety, stress, or tension you may be experiencing so that vital, healing energy – prana – can move freely through the entire body. When vital energy is flowing freely (not obstructed), you experience positive emotions, revitalized energy, mental clarity, lightness, pain relief, and an overall sense of well-being.
