Saturday, February 18, 2023; Heart Openers and Domes

Saturday’s yoga practice is designed to activate the muscles and organs of the torso, arms, shoulder, upper back, and neck, so you can cultivate the strength, confidence, courage, and energy you need to live a heart-centered life.

Backbends and twists specifically harness the power of the third chakra (solar plexus), so the flames of your sacred fire radiates upward, to ignite the fourth (heart) and fifth chakra (throat).

This class combines heart openers and domes to help connect you to the power of your solar plexus (third chakra) – where there is sun and fire energy – and move that energy to your upper chakras (fourth and fifth chakras), so that the flames in your belly touch and ignite your heart, breath, spirit, and mind.

My hope is that when you ignite your heart, breath, spirit, and mind, you begin to serve the world in a deeper, more meaningful way that is in harmony with your true, divine nature that is compassion, joy, peace, and love.

Benefits

  • Create strength and flexibility in your upper core
  • Development of alignment in the shoulder blades
  • Learn how to create a dome shape in the upper spine
  • Learn how to develop flexibility in your wrists
  • Dome your thoracic spine to create more flexibility
  • Relieve tension in your neck and upper back
  • Increase abdominal core strength
  • Open your heart to create positive energy flow

Pranayama: Alternate Nostril Breathing and Belly Breathing

Asanas: Vinyasa Flow, Standing Poses, Backbends, Hip Openers, Simple Inversions, Twists, Forward Folds, and Restoratives

Sunday, February 19, 2023; Forward Folds for Flexibility

Forward folds are a perfect companion to a dome practice as forward folds release tightness in the lower back, hips, hamstrings, and quadriceps. Forward folds also target the calf muscles, so that we can release tightness in the lower leg as well.

The misconception about forward folds is that we should already “be flexible” to do the poses as well as receive the benefits of these postures. Not so. There are many ways to release tight muscles that don’t require “doing the pose.”

This class integrates breathing techniques with resistance training, so that we can activate muscles that are not “fully functioning” so that muscles that are overworking can relax and lengthen with the rhythm of our breath.

Benefits include:

  • Release tightness in your back, hips, hamstrings, and quadricep muscles
  • Relieve tightness in the diaphragm so that you can breathe deeper
  • Create ease and calmness in our breath and mind so muscles begin to relax
  • Recover from physical and mental fatigue
  • Relieve exhaustion and breathlessness
  • Relax and calm your nervous system
  • Recharge your energy system
  • Rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit

Healing Injury? For those who have a history of injury or trauma and notice that the effects of the minor/major injuries are beginning to interfere with your everyday lives, please note that all of the yoga classes are naturally healing.

Each yoga class is designed to help release stored pain, anxiety, stress, or tension you may be experiencing so that vital, healing energy – prana – can move freely through the entire body. When vital energy is flowing freely (not obstructed), you experience positive emotions, revitalized energy, mental clarity, lightness, pain relief, and an overall sense of well-being.
