Upper Core Strength, Balance, and Alignment

The upper core, also called the pectoral girdle, includes the muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments of the torso, rib cage, thoracic spine, shoulder blades, shoulder joint, arms, collarbone, cervical spine, neck, and head. The upper core requires an upward vertical thrust and is both strong and more vulnerable to misalignment (than the pelvic girdle) without firm support. Any habitual, unbalanced movement pattern can change the tone of  the underlying shoulder blade muscles – overworking some muscles causing tightness and neglecting other muscles. 

This class is designed to help you create shoulder blade alignment, release tight neck and shoulder blade muscles, create flexibility and elasticity in the thoracic spine, align the thoracic and cervical spine, and create upper arm and upper core strength. 

“The pectoral girdle must be loosely attached to the ribcage in order that free extension of the arm may be possible. When the arm is raised, the scapula follows it laterally.”  The Integration of Human Structures, Ida Rolf

Pranayama: Alternate nostril breathing

Asanas: Sun Salutation, Domes, Inclines, Side Planks, Simple Inversions, Bridge, Twists, Forward Folds, and Supported Inversions

Restoratives: Setu Bandha Sarvangasana and Savasana

Healing Injury? For those who have a history of injury or trauma and notice that the effects of the minor/major injuries are beginning to interfere with your everyday lives, please note that all of the yoga classes are naturally healing.

Each yoga class is designed to help release stored pain, anxiety, stress, or tension you may be experiencing so that vital, healing energy – prana – can move freely through the entire body. When vital energy is flowing freely (not obstructed), you experience positive emotions, revitalized energy, mental clarity, lightness, pain relief, and an overall sense of well-being.


Whether you have attended any of my yoga classes in the past or not, you are welcome to attend any or all of these classes.


Beginner – with at least 6 months of yoga experience


One yoga mat, necessary
