Yoga for Digestive Health – Increase Vitality, Aid Digestion, and Decrease Stress with Breathing Techniques and Asanas.
Deep, mindful breathing helps the body to rest and digest. Breathing deeply and mindfully takes us out of the flight-fright-fight-freeze-fawn response (sympathetic nervous system) that causes blood to move from the gut to other larger muscles in body. Being in a constant flight-fright-fight response interferes with digestion and weakens the immune system and can increase inflammation.
The practice of alternate nostril breathing (pranayma) encourages slow, mindful breathing to help the body and mind relax, so the nervous system experiences calm feelings and a sense of safety. The nervous system naturally switches into the parasympathetic nervous system – the ‘rest and digest’ nervous system.
The practice of diaphragm breathing and abdominal breathing (belly breath) connects us to the body’s gut-brain axis, encouraging more concentrated blood into the belly and gut regions of the body that greatly enhances and improves digestion.
The asanas (yoga postures) aids the body in it’s natural digestion process and improves the overall immune response.
Benefits include:
Healing Injury? For those who have a history of injury or trauma and notice that the effects of the minor/major injuries are beginning to interfere with your everyday lives, please note that all of the yoga classes are naturally healing.
Each yoga class is designed to help release stored pain, anxiety, stress, or tension you may be experiencing so that vital, healing energy – prana – can move freely through the entire body. When vital energy is flowing freely (not obstructed), you experience positive emotions, revitalized energy, mental clarity, lightness, pain relief, and an overall sense of well-being.
